This Week's Run

January 20, 2005

Location: Hebe Haven Yacht Club

Hare: Hugh Watt

A To A Run

Run start will be at the HEBE HAVEN YACHT CLUB, at the parking lot downstairs.

To get to Hebe Haven (by public transport) take the MTR to CHOI HUNG (~$13) if you are coming from Central or TST. Get off at Choi Hung and take Exit C. Look for and take the 1A minibus ($7.50) be labelled as headed for Sai Kung. Tell the driver to stop at Pak Sha Wan. The Yacht Club is opposite the bus stop. See below for additional commentary on location of the Club.

ALTERNATIVELY, take MTR to HANG HAU (~$13) if you are coming from Wanchai or Causeway Bay (or also from Central) [much nearer and faster if from Wanchai or Causeway Bay onwards]. Get off at Hang Hau and take exit that says -public transport- (Exit B). Turn left and walk through the multi-lane bus terminus to the queue for Minibus #101 or #101M ($7). Tell the driver to stop at Pak Sha Wan.

COMMENTARY ON LOCATION OF HEBE HAVEN: Either bus will allow you to enjoy the white knuckle ride until you pass the nasty white development (and ET's HK home) of Marina Cove on your right (you can't miss it). Now you have to wake up and pay attention... About 5 minutes after passing Marina Cove (depending on traffic - so don't blame me if you are quicker or slower) you will find yourself coming down a slight hill and you will/should see the Pak Sa Wan public pier (where the Sampan Restaurant used to be.. its gone now) coming up on the right hand side. At this point you need to yell one of the following at the driver: If you are new to HK, or a Government Architect then shout: "Yau Lok". If you have mastered "M-Goy" then shout: "Bah-see Stop M-Goy". If you want to show off and impress some small Canto-tart on the bus shout: "Pak Sa Wan Yau Lok M-Goy". All of these should have the same effect - the driver should give you a cursory wave of his hand and then the bus should screech to a halt in a small car park opposite to Hebe Have Yacht Club.

Having disembarked, cross the road at the pedestrian crossing (looking both ways as you cross the road) and then turn left. Now you have two choices - if you know where you are going cut through the club and into the car park; if you do not know where you are going keep walking past the club and past the bus stop - you will then see the entrance to the car park on your right. Go into the car park and look for other hashers hanging around.

Total travel time from Central to Yacht Club -- 40-45 minutes (oh, give me a break, you've been there before!!).

Free parking is available at the long carpark next to the Yacht Club (about 100metres further along the road towards Sai Kung).

As ever, please see the maps below:
