Since Operation Santa Claus started back in the Sixties as Operation
Fat Choi, it has raised nearly HK$50 million for numerous charities.
Today, Operation Santa Claus is heralded in both South China Morning Post
and RTHK, with stories about the rainbow range of fundraising events and
daily updates on received donations. Community groups right across the
SAR pitch in to help, to raise money and awareness of Operation Santa
Claus - from the police, to the MTRC, main shopping chains, schools at
all levels, and even theatre companies. Major corporations and financial
institutions are usually the big givers, but the core of donations still
come from individuals.
Each year, we choose a different HK children's
charity as the focus of Operation Santa Claus.
After a careful selection process, we have chosen The Pathways Learning
Centre for Children with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD) to be this
year's beneficiary. The Pathways Learning Centre aims to be an innovative
centre of excellence in teaching, learning and support for children, their
families, associated professionals and the wider community. Services include
addressing each child's particular needs, implementing effective teacher
training programmes, delivering workshops and training sessions, providing
information about SLD to the general public and providing counseling and
strategic support to parents.
Donations are always crucial to Operation Santa
Claus, but what we want to concentrate on are initiatives across the Hong
Kong community.
