Operation Santa Claus

Operation Santa Claus started back in the Sixties as Operation Fat Choi, and has raised many millions of HK$ for numerous charities.

Today, Operation Santa Claus is the annual fundraising campaign organised by the South China Morning Post and the English Programme Service of Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK). The campaign seeks to raise funds and awareness for Hong Kong charities over the winter holiday season.

All through December, corporations, clubs and individual donors put on a series of creative activities to raise funds for Operation Santa Claus. These activities are publicised extensively through the SCMP and Radio 3. They not only highlight the community's sense of sharing and giving, but also contribute much festive fun and laughter to our city.

The Campaign's schools component seeks to engender creativity and teamwork among Hong Kong's children and young people, not only for raising funds, but more importantly for inspiring students with a heightened sense of empathy for society's less fortunate.

From a modest beginning in 1988, when HK$101,000 was raised, Operation Santa Claus has collected over the years a total of 88 million in cash, goods and services, including 9 million for tsunami victims in 2004.

The 2005 campaign raised more than HK$12.2 million thanks to the many Santa Clauses in the Hong Kong community. With the record sum raised, so much has and will be achieved by last year's twelve beneficiaries.

We have now launched Operation Santa Claus' 2006 Campaign. Join forces with us and help break another record!
